The Legacy Music Project: Repair

Repair Thumbnail featuring Ned Andrew outside playing his Taylor Acoustic Guitar

Many of us are better at breaking things than repairing them, especially in our relationships with our friends and loved ones. Repairing is hard, and requires overcoming our feelings, like pride and guilt. It also can’t be rushed or done half-assed. It’s a heavy thing, which is why I dedicated an entire instrumental song to it: Repair. It is the fifth instrumental video we’ve released for our Legacy Music Project, if any of you are keeping count!

Fett wanted to try layering two very similar Taylor acoustic parts, like they’re having their own kind of conversation, and I’m really happy how this turned out, (so much so that we applied this layering technique to several other songs in the Legacy Music Project.) Then Fett put down a lovely bass part and Dave Hoffner provided a gorgeous piano track. I feel blessed to have access to these two incredible talents, who, despite the thousands of songs they’ve helped bring to life, seem to really like this song too. My friend Herb said it reminded him of a lazy river; for Aaron, it’s “a lapping tide at sunset.” (Water being the surprising, common denominator. Could have something to do with my wife Gina being a very definitive Pisces.)

Repair was one of the earliest instrumentals I composed (still within a couple of year’s time), and for me it solidified my coming to terms with writing songs without words. I have learned that words are sometimes limiting, and that the conversation may take different turns when it’s between the music and an open-hearted listener.

So listen. Let me know what you think, if you’re inspired.

Gratefully,

Ned Andrew
