Now You Can Tell Me is the fourth instrumental release from my upcoming mostly instrumental album, Electric Ned & The Danger Babies, and the first to include the gorgeous piano work of Nashville session player, composer, instrumentalist, and producer Dave Hoffner. This is a collaboration that will feature prominently in several of the upcoming releases, both instrumental and lyrical.
Fett and I did not want to hold Dave back for this recording and gave him a full carte blanche to let loose and make the piano the featured instrument on this song. And, in typical Dave Hoffner fashion, he delivered a gem of a piano track, in my estimation! (I smile every time I listen to it.) Of course, this track would be a much lesser thing without Fett’s inspired and perfect bass part.
Of all my recent instrumentals Now You Tell Me is probably the jazziest, and I’m talking older pop jazz here. After hearing this, a dear friend and fellow musician said it reminded him of George Benson. High Praise indeed – though I’m not sure George Benson’s own musical legacy needs to worry. Yeah, well, I have no idea where these songs come from – be them folk, country, pop, rock, jazz, ambient, or even gospel. I try to grab ‘em when they get here, though.
I don’t know how strictly instrumental bands like Explosions in the Sky, Balmorhea, Four Tet, or Covet (all well worth checking out!) come up with their titles. I can only tell you that a title typically “appears to me” while I’m in the early stages of composing, and they almost always stick. Now You Tell Me is a musical ode to all the lessons in my life that I’ve learned too late. You might have a couple of those too.
I hope you enjoy this tune. You are always free to dance or sway!
Gratefully,
Ned Andrew

I love this piece, Ned. It feels so serene to me and I feel my blood pressure decreasing as I listen. Thank you…this is lovely. Much love, Mama E.
Mama E!
Thank you so much again for your kind and generous comments! If I can help improve your blood pressure, than so be it!
